Service Improvement Marketing Business Skills and Commissioning Study Tours

Our Programme

NHS Elect's programme of work includes the following areas:

Service Improvement. Working at both the national level in support of the Department of Health’s 18 week delivery programme and with our members, we are spreading best practice and learning on how to implement 18 week pathways, orthopaedic coaching, enhanced recovery and improve services for patients..

Marketing and Patient Experience. With the introduction of patient choice and plurality of providers, NHS organisations are increasingly finding that they are operating in a market orientated environment. NHS Elect will help you to bring together the culture, process and techniques of marketing to ensure the best possible chance of success in your organisation. This includes market analysis to marketing plan writing and e-marketing to board level facilitation and front line staff customer care training.

Business and Commercial Skills. Patient choice and the provision of NHS funded care by the independent sector have created a new environment of contestability in the NHS market. We work to give members a greater understanding of how best to respond to the emerging NHS market, effectively engage with the independent sector and explore new models of service provision.

Commissioning. NHS Elect offers a formal programme to PCTs to effect real change in service delivery and financial positions. The work stream covers three core topics: commissioning (Practice Based Commissioning, market making and strategic commissioning); provider services (covering both GP provider services and PCT provider services) and financial recovery and demand management.

Study Tours. As part of the NHS Elect membership, all sites benefit from places on overseas and national trips to learn from international and national best practice. NHS Elect has visited Amsterdam, New York and Berlin. We are planning to study the Swedish health system in 2010 to learn from their innovation, quality and productivity projects.

"NHS Elect provides an invaluable knowledge base for learning with access to a network of health organisations, allowing us to share knowledge and best practice with others." Kathleen Houghton, Corporate Planning Manager, Western Sussex Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust
